When giving the menus for the Michelangelo Dayboard and Feast Johnna wrote:

I can't imagine butter being served in an Italian feast of that period. 
Olive oil is more likely if anything at all. The first butter factory in 
Madrid was at the turn of the 19th Century for Fernando VII's third 
wife. It closed after she died meaning it was as short lived as her 
marriage.
