<<< We're looking for a period recipe for Pea Soup. The little data
we've been able to find indicates that while everybody seems to have had
one. but because it was low-end peasant food, no-one wrote the recipe
down. Any leads, clues or even recipes! would be greatly appreciated!
>>>
Quite the contrary. Perhaps in some areas it was also peasant food,
but it shows up in way too many period cookbooks, which tended to be
written for the middle and upper class to be considered exclusively
"peasant" food.
Go to the search engine on the top page of the Florilegium site and
plug "pea soup" into it and you will get about 30 hits. Some of these
won't be actual recipes, some will be various interpretations of the
same period recipe. However, just glancing at the results I can see
period recipes for pea soup from at least several cookbooks.
