[Sca-cooks] The Cooks Source Editor Speaks at last

As Editor of CA, I've had some real "go-arounds" with the SCA lawyers. In
fact, the publications/copyright lawyers have just completed a review of our
policies, which have now been clarified and modified to make them more
understandable and consistent. Even with that, I still have things come up
that are questionable...and I would not even consider using
something without being as sure as possible that we're in the clear! There
are wonderful things like...a list of ingredients cannot be copyrighted, but
the directions can! So especially in the area of food, it gets really
tricky.

Just so you all will know, the lawyers, working with our Publications
Manager, have rewritten the permission forms...and these latest versions can
be found on the SCA web site...http://www.sca.org/ca/release.html for CA,
http://www.sca.org/ti/submissions.html for TI and
http://www.sca.org/docs/library.html#officers for newsletters. Note that
there is a model release form in case you wish to use a photograph or
drawing of a person...you need their permission as well as that of the
artist or photographer!

I hope this helps...
