[Sca-cooks] Description of the Beaver

They are two genetically seperate species which cannot inter-breed (based on 
actual breeding tests).  Castor fiber is the European beaver (48 chromosomes).  
Castor canadensis is the North American beavcer (40 chromosomes).  That being 
said, they are equals in the cookpot.

Is the in period beaver of Europe and the British Isles the same as those found 
in North America?  I know that their squirrels and deer were different from 
those of the eastern seaboard  as were, I think, the wolves.

A strong example of the different world-view people had in the middle
ages.  It would never occur to me to think part of an animal could be
a fish.
