>From a modern standpoint stainless is really important for dying.
You get the reaction of the chemicals you use NOT the reaction of the pot.
BUT if you are recreating the period dye methods finding pots, cauldrons,
etc. that are made from the materials they used is important. Also water
from a natural source (and possibly stored in barrels of wood appropriate to
the time and place - oak for instance will also effect the dye).

I am working on re-creating some period dye recipes at the moment and the
variables are very interesting.
