Greetings all!

I know this group will understand how excited I am to have been hired by
Stone Mountain Park in Georgia to be a professional food historian! Squeee!

I’m going to do my first stint working at the Antebellum Plantation
cookhouse during the Frontier Days Festival at the end of April. The time
period for the festival is the Colonial period, and spans from first contact
(with Conquistador reenactors) all the way up to the start of the Civil War.
The cook house I’ll be working in is circa 1840’s. This is not my time
period, although my mother collected antiques from this era and I grew up
playing with cooking implements that were ‘décor’ around my house, including
grinding chalk in the antique coffee grinder, play cooking on all the cast
iron implements, and we even used the candle molds to pour actual candles
into.

Recipes and cookware are covered, between my sources and their sources and
the internet, I have lots of resource materials. What I’m most concerned
about is wardrobe. I need to create enough garb to work 4 sweaty days in a
row. I could use some expert advice on materials, shoes, patterns, and any
helpful hints.

If you have experience cooking within this era, I’d love to chat with you.
You can contact me off-list at: kingstaste at comcast.net.

Thanks, and once again I am so grateful to have this list as a wonderful
resource! You guys rock! :-)

Christianna
