Sorry Mirianna,
as a fellow 'Northern Outlander' I have to disagree with you.
While a feast of only unusual foods might have trouble selling except to a
select audience, a feast with tasty period food including some 'unusual' items,
has no trouble (other than the usual propensity of Outlanders to not reserve in
advance.
Actually, at one southern Crown Tourney, Mistress Monika von Zell spearheaded a period food tasting table. Everything was period (to variny degrees of difficulty) and everything was pretty much eaten. Now, being an outdoor tourney, we may have had a captive audience to a point, but there were many comments from a lot of people that the food was good.

Admittedly, we were aiming at the more accessible recipes, and had simpler things like fresh made butter (shake, shake shake... shake, shake, shake... shake your bottle), fresh cheese with varying additions (honey and pomegranate seeds a favorite) and simple stews, but there were more complex offerings as well, along with a pamphlet with recipes.

It is do-able to instruct the masses that period food is good, but baby steps are a good thing as well.
