And, have you ever internet searched it?   It seems that baumkuchen is a hugely 
popular cake in Japan.   They have all kinds of pictures of people doing it over 

a bb-q grille and these really cool ovens built just for making it.  There are 
also some artists who have taken the form to extrem heights.  Building vase and 
mod-art forms out of it.  


I can see it being devloped from someone wanting to re-heat a pancake by 
wrapping it around a spit and toasting over a fire,(from whaat I read as some of 

your translations sound like) to the delicate cake it became in the recipe I 
have from the bakery book, to the modern day fad in japan.   I like the idea of 
a spit cinnamon roll, To fun!

In a quick look at your site I see you are interested in baumkuchen too.  How 
fun is that stuff?  I found a recipe for that in an old 1800's bakery book I 
have and was intriged right away.  Thank you for the search you have on it, I 
have been wondering how old that recipe was.
