Brassica juncea, oriental mustard, originates in the foothills of the 
Himalaya range.  It is the source of Indian brown mustard and has long been 
used in Indian cooking.

Sinapis hirta, white mustard, is the variety native to the Mediterranean 
Basin.  It is the mustard that was common to Europe.
