Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions so far (i think i've seen four responses). I get the digest, so i may have missed some that won't show up for a few hours.

My brain also kicked into gear, so i've been making my own list. Lots of modern Japanese crispy crunchies (arare, okashi, senbei) to go with the sake (and tea, of course). Period cheese-herb tarts (without crust for the gluten intolerant) baked in a rectangular pan and cut into little cubes. Brownies and blondies cut into little cubes. More stuff on my list to weed through...

Thanks for the reminder: i have heard that dates wrapped in something like prosciutto are period in Spain, although i haven't yet found a reference to them, so i'll add these to the list. BTW, Trader Joe's has precooked bacon - it is not crisp but crisps up quickly in a toaster oven with little dripage.

Would a toaster oven set off all the smoke alarms? I don't know if there are balconies at this hotel - if there are, maybe i can get a long extension cord and make some quick hot stuff out there.

Urtatim (that's err-tah-TEEM)
