Thanks, that does narrow it down a bit.

Tre asked:
<<< I looked in the florilegium and didn't see anything...but I may have missed it.

I'm trying to find varieties of several vegetables that would be at least close to the viking/anglo-saxon varieties. >>>

Generally in the Florilegium, I don't have foods separated by time, other than the New World food items. Part of it is because it is difficult to define just where the dividing line is to be for different foods.

Try these files:
fd-Anglo-Saxn-msg (33K)  7/19/10  Food of Anglo-Saxon England. References.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD-BY-REGION/fd-Anglo-Saxn-msg.html

fd-Norse-msg (66K) 3/16/08 Norse and Viking food.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD-BY-REGION/fd-Norse-msg.html

Also, in the NORSE section:
Norse-food-art     (8K)  7/26/94  Article on what the Norse ate.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/NORSE/Norse-food-art.html

<<<I already found a source for purple carrots, so plan to use those.

I'm looking at Cabbage, and thinking of possibly using kale instead of modern cabbage, as some of what I'm seeing says that early cabbage was more leafy and less head. >>>

cabbages-msg     (104K) 12/ 6/11  Period cabbages. Broccoli, Cauliflower,
                Brussel Sprouts. Recipes.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD-VEGETABLES/cabbages-msg.html

<<< I know several of my recipes call specifically for leeks, and that isn't a problem, but other recipes call for onions, and I was wondering what variety might be closest to what was available. >>>

leeks-msg         (33K) 12/10/09  Recipes for dishes using leeks.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD-VEGETABLES/leeks-msg.html

onions-msg        (74K)  3/23/10  Period onions. Scallions, shallots. recipes.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD-VEGETABLES/onions-msg.html

I hope this helps.

Stefan
