if you google "gypsy pot" and look at the images, is your aunt's pot like #2 or #5 in the first row of pictures?

We have quite a size array of these because someone at the local flea market several years ago was selling South African cast iron cook pots. One or two "rings" for reinforcement & 3 little spike legs (or big long spike legs). -- OK another search brings me the term "potjie" for the South African ones.

soup on the cook stove -- was that a wood-burner stove?
