We've been talking about various new cooking gadgets and in the past we 
talked a little about sous-vide cooking (which I haven't tried yet).

I saw this on kickstarter,

The Searzall

Turns a blowtorch into a hand-held supercharged instant-power broiler. 
Sears fish, sous-vide, pizza, cheese, foie, and everything else.

Any comments? Can this replace salamanders for home cooking?

Certainly more convenient if you don't have a fire going all the time 
for the salamander to live in.
