Pliny places them in Italy in the 1st Century having been introduced from 
Syria.  They were known in Greece for centuries and were eaten in the Levant 
and Central Asia for millenia.

Where were pistachios used? Did they make it to Classical Rome? I think of 
them as being more Middle Eastern.
