Two subspecies of sandhill cranes are endangered, but I doubt if either
makes it to Meridies (

used to work for the game and fish department in NM. They are a managed
species, but that doesn't imply endangered. It is legal to hunt them (
http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/hunting/information-by-animal/migratory-bird/
).
