I maintain copies of our wills, durable powers of attorney, advance medical
directives, revocable trust, inventories and insurance data, and other
valuable papers in an expandable file at the house and in a safety deposit
box in both physical and digital. I'm also working on a binder with copies
of those documents, full descriptions and photographs of jewelry and
collectibles and instructions for disposition to go to the successor
trustee/executor. When I get moved to New Mexico, I'll probably see about
keeping an additional separate copy in a good fire-proof safe in one of the
other buildings on the property. A fire proof security box rated for a
20-30 minutes in a house fire can be a good investment.
One of the key points is that whoever is to be your executor in case of
death or disability know where your instructions are and be able to obtain a
set. If you don't trust the Cloud (and I don't), keep your digital copies
in standard formats on memory sticks.

Any ideas on where to keep the inventory, once that's done? We have a pretty
good computerized inventory, actually, due to 3+ decades of plans to return
my DH to Canada… But we don't think the Cloud is secure, and is much too
small; and I'm retired, so keeping a physical copy at work is no longer an
option…
