Greetings Scribes,
There was a meeting of the College of Scribes at the recent Ansteorran Heraldic and Scribal
Symposium. Here are the highlights for review:

Regionals:
Regional Scribes have a new set of master charters, so you will see a few new scrolls to paint
soon. Regionals have received a set of DVD’s on scribal education – look forward to a few movie
nights in your areas when scheduled. Thanks to Baroness Crystal Ariana MacRuari for making the
copies.

Coastal Region has a new officer, Lady Sabine Dubois from Gate’s Edge was introduced. Sabine will
be at the Laurel’s Prize Tourney in September in Seawinds if you need scrolls; her contact info
will appear in the next Black Star.

Regionals and Deputies in attendance included Central - Nuala, Coastal - Sabine and Golden Scroll
- Sara Penrose. Painted charters were collected by Star Signet to be delivered to Sable Scroll.

Paper:
Three approved papers for Ansteorran Charter Award scrolls were displayed and discussed. These
papers are the only papers to be used for making charter scrolls and the only persons authorized
and reimbursable to make charters are the Scribes Regionals, Golden Scroll, Sable Scroll and Star
Signet officers. If scribes have artistic problems using the authorized papers (toner,
bleading, paints), please advise Star Signet so a review can be done.

Retired Scrolls:
Reminder that the following awards are retired. Please don’t destroy these scrolls if you have
outstanding charters; but return them to your Regional Scribe for storage as you never know if an
award will be reinstated.
Retired: (not all may have had scroll texts)
Arcus Majoris
Queen’s Ring
Crown’s Favor
Knights of the Sable Garland
Optio

New Charters Designs:
Arc d’Or
King’s Lancer
Queen’s Champion
Sable Talon

There was a bit of discussion on submitting new charter designs, and I’ll discuss that in another
missive. If interested in creating new designs, please contact Star Signet for details.

Website:
A new template for the page design has been approved and the WebAdmin Zubeydah is building the
pages. She has asked for gallery images to be sent to her, along with the required permission
lists for publication.

New articles and administrative handbook information will also be on the new webpage.

Library:
Star Principal has tasked the Tressure Herald (Education - Mstr. Clare RosMuire St. John) with
building a Heraldic/Scribal library and to display it for use at four events during the year. If
you have books to donate, please see Star Signet.

Scribes Guilds:
Several new or revieved branch Scribe’s Guilds are developing. Please contact your Regional Scribe
or Star Signet for information on how to grow a guild, receiving charters to paint and reporting
requests.

Education and Teaching:
We need more Scribal Teachers willing to teach the specialities they know and willing to travel to
share that knowledge. If you’re a first time teachers, start small at the local level, then
regional, then kingdom. There are many who can help you develop great classes to share – see Star
Signet. Seek out scribal education in your local modern scribes guilds of Texas and Ok., as well
as via books and online. Invite kingdom scribes to your guild functions from outside your area
to teach.

Samples:
Samples were distributed to those in attendance from John Neal Books of pipettes, Vellum and
catalogs.

Hope to see many of you at Laurel’s Prize Tourney in September in Seawinds; remember the event is
a non-competition body-of-work exhibit to show and chat about your work.

Regards, Hillary Greenslade
Star Signet
