Greetings and congratulations to Lady Aline Hopton, Honored Star Signet,
from HL Lete Bithespring, Iris, Oak, etc.

I’m a very old player—since the late 1990’s— but, being 81, I don’t actively play or camp any more. I have been SCA and mundanely trained by such as QEII’s scribe Donald Jackson, before he started the illuminated St. John’s Bible on vellum. I have had 3 books published (out of print), one of which got a comment from and an offer to sell in Europe.

That said, I did a number of pieces for the SCA. I also was the owner of Calligraphy Heaven— a mundane school. art supply store, and I did international commissions. Retired, now, and Calligraphy Heaven closed, I have taken the role of advisor to those who still know me and have questions.

What I have suggested (off and on) through the years is for scribes to put at the bottom of a broadside the complete set, majuscule and minuscule (and possibly the numbers’ design), of the alphabet in the hand the scribe is using to create the art piece. When another scribe is given a commission to do one for a winner or an honored person, the second scribe can use the design to write the name of the honoree so it won’t be so different from the text used.

The example will be cut off before presentation. The look of the piece presented will be more cohesive visually and not look amateurish with two noticeably different scribes’ work. The second scribe may not know how to analyze the style and reproduce it, as I had to do for my time in the SCA and mundanely.

I do not have any social media accounts, like facebook or Utube, for personal reasons. If someone dearly wants to have me look at something, they can send me the site in an email.

If you want to take credit for this idea to make work easier for the second scribe, please do so. Being retired, I am not seeking honors in the SCA. It is my gift to you as the new Star Signet of Elfsea.

YIS,
HL Lete Bithespring, Steppes
