Good day, good day!
After having taken a day off to recover from the bodily abuse I was so lucky
to recieve on Sunday, I thought I might give a brief account of the goings
on to those that were not so fortunate to join us.
We had a total of 64 people at the Southern Regional Fighter Practice in
Tempio, 33 of whom were fighters (30 chivalric/3 rapier). We ran pick-ups
all day and had several melees with refreshers on commands and a productive
critique of the melees. We had people from Emerald Keep, Shadowlands, Bryn
Gwylad, Ffynnon Gath, Bjornsborg, Seawinds, and of course, Tempio. Great
turnout combined with nice weather made for a perfect practice.
In addition to the fighting, there was a basic heraldry class given by Lord
Gwythno which had at least six attendants who walked away with ideas for
their own devices.
The children did their best to thin their own ranks by playing on the
infamous Tempio Rocketship and Fortress Playground but were unsuccessful;
they were foiled by good parental control and the clever safety designs
added to the area. They hope to do better next time.
There was a glorious post-bruising cookout and bellydancing jam session
after everyone had gotten out of armor at which many Southern Regional
Newsletters were disseminated and many of the names thereon were discussed.
Nobody seems to like 'Lowenhaven'- I'm crushed. Terra Leone, Lionsmouth,
and Champs des Leons seem to be way out in front in popularity, but we won't
really have a good idea about it until we run a survey in one of the
upcoming editions of the Lions Tale. Kudos to Lord Duncan MacConacher from
Bryn Gwylad for the great job he's done there! Get any other suggestions
you have on names in to him via the webpage, by mail, or in person as soon
as possible so we can run a poll.
With turnouts like this and as much fun as we had, it's easy to see the best
reasons to continue to have these things!
Thanks to Lady Olwen Cadfael, Lady Branwyn, Cathy, Lord Cullum, Baron
Theodoric, and Lady Anna for doing all the rough work that helped make this
thing come off with shade, water, oranges, pavillion reservations, and most
of all, enthusiasm. People like these are the reason the rest of us get to
have as much fun as we do so if you see em later at one of your practices,
shake their hands and tell em you appreciate them too.
We had talked on the net about the next practice being in Middleford and
looking at the crowded calander I'm thinking November-ish... any other
input, gang? Better ideas on timing or location welcomed! Middleford, you
still interested in hosting it on some Sunday afternoon? Sounds like a good
Shadowlands discussion topic, doesn't it?
Bruise credits go to Sir Corwins squire Evets (my left thigh) and Duke
Patricks squire Randal (my left thigh). My left thigh has registered a
complaint on my left arm for negligence and my left arm has sent in a
request for a longer shield. The brain has yet to take action, and is
currently on sabbatical in Bimini. Results of the dispute will be covered
at the next Regional Practice.
Yours,
Dieterich
