one other important point about "straw polls", one of their prime uses is to 
guage interest in something at some particular point in time ... the numbers 
published and the request for presentations on the "party-line" don't so 
much show no interest in the matter, but would indicate that more 
information is wanted by the group as a whole as matter sits *today*

i would pay more attention to the the total number voting verses total 
members ... numbers voting "more information or no opinion at this point" 
... than the "no's" that most are focusing on.  it's been my experinece in 
such things in the past, that you can usually sway some of the "no's" to 
your side with clear reasoning and paying some attention to their concerns 
that haven't been adequately addressed.

recommendation ... more "marketing" needed in this particular 
demographic (g)
