<<< I am a recent addition to the SCA world and am interested in
learning the ancient methods of cooking that our fore mothers used in
preparing meals. I am presently trying to develop a 1550's Irish
personae. I was at one time heavily involved with Buckskinning of the
western mountain men fur trade era of approximately 1830's. I would
love to learn recipes, cooking methods, and cooking utensils for open
campfire cooking. >>>
Welcome to this list and to the SCA!
I run a fairly large SCA/medieval site called Stefan's Florilegium.
Currently there are a bit over 2200 different files there on a wide
variety of SCA and medieval subjects.
You might find the NEWCOMERS section there a good place to start.
On open-fire cooking, I do have these three files in the FOOD section:
caldron-cookg-msg (5K) 5/ 9/02 Cooking foods in a caldron over an
open fire
cook-ovr-fire-msg (68K) 6/ 8/09 Cooking over open fires. Outdoor
feasts.
Opn-Fr-Cookry-art (26K) 6/23/07 "Outdoor Open Fire Cookery" by
Count Sir
Gunthar Jonsson, CIM.
There are some others, which although not written specifically about
open-fire cookery, might be of interest such as:
Camp-Cooking-art (8K) 12/ 4/00 "Camp Cooking" by Lady Caointiarn.
M-Camp-Cookng-art (11K) 10/ 2/01 "More Camp Cooking" by Lady
Caointiarn.
Some simple one-pot meals.
campfood-msg (84K) 3/ 3/99 Non-refrig., period food for
camping events.
Or if you are really ambitious, in the FOOD-MEATS section:
whole-pig-msg (66K) 4/18/05 Info. on roasting a whole pig.
Experiences.
