Please forgive me for not stepping in earlier.

I'm Gunthar and the founder and administrator of this list

as well as the SCA-Cook's list. I don't post as much as I

used to but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.

This mailing list was originally set up because I wanted

to build Scappi's spit but didn't have the foggiest idea

how to go about it or how to get it made for me.

Things kind of got away from that concept to more of a

discussion of period outdoor cookery in general and that

makes me very happy. I would love to see this become a

much more active discussion list.

The best reproduction of the Scappi spit that I have found

belongs to Master Phalim Gervaise, or PUG, in Ansteorra. It is

a full metal spit with the pegs on the legs to hold the smaller

spits. It's very nice.

I've done some cooking with crockery and found them to be

very efficient if you are careful. I've even used them on my

modern stove when preparing a meal to be entered into the

Gulf Wars A&S Champion competition. I've never had any problems

with the legs breaking due to heat on my pipkins.

To the lady posting the pictures from Rowany. Would you be

terribly embarassed if I salaam'd in your general direction.

Beautiful.

I promise to post more and relate my cookery experiences. I

hope to be able to spend at least one day at Gulf Wars doing

nothing but hanging out in camp and cooking in a period manner.

I won't be going to Pennsic this year unfortunately.

Yours,

Duke Gunthar Jonsson, KSCA, OL, Baron, etc...

Evil List Administrator

PS. Never consider yourself to be a "dreaded newbie", we need

more of you and you are always welcome.
