ST - List Etiquette was ST-Fighter practice March 4

A very gracious response and worthy of the pursuits of the Society. Upon
review, my reaction was "knee jerk" and undue. I do believe that many, many
people read this list whether they are active on it or not. I know I used
it to get a feel for the Barony before I began to participate in any events.
Therefore, it should behoove us to always display a manner of gentleness in
all of our posts and responses. Each missive should be written so that all
who might come across it feel a sense of welcome and respect. My apologies
to the good Marshall in my failing to take his perspective. My admonishment
to the good Marshall, to myself and to all our membership, that all should
be said and written in a manner consistent with great mutual respect and
great affection for our brothers and sisters of the Society. After all, a
future King is certainly even now lurking on this list wondering just
whether this SCA thing is worthy of their time...

Blessings to all, In Grace,
Father Ryan Mannleigh

  Reece,

  Thank you for responding.

I am sure that the archery marshall, Lord Ironwyrm, did not intentionally
mean to be so curt in his reply. There is a good possibility that he was not
aware of the previous posts, thus unaware of the entire history involved.
E-mail is a very poor means of communicating ideas and thoughts from one
person to another.

I do hope that you will reconsider and continue to your interest and
participating in one of the finest outdoor art forms that I know and love
doing.

    Mike,

Thanks for asking the question as it was confusing. However, the curt
reply of the archery marshall has tampened my interest in participating in
the art a great deal.

This caught me out of left field. I do not understand the tone here.

To mewhen combat archery is mention as being brought onto the field of
play, thenit is usual being employed against live opponents and not static
targets. The question needed to asked concerning will fighters and archers
would be on the field and actually mixing it up. The earlier e-mails did not
stated the details, and so I asked the Question.

And by the nature of combat archery, the points involved are Always
some type ofblunts and NOT field points. I do know the difference between
the two, although I do not shoot field points at this time. I do study and
strive to perfect the artsof combat archery on and off the field as defined
by both the SCA and theKingdom of Ansteorra.

Thank you for responding to this good gentle's question your Excellency. I
was away competing with my mundane dart league this night. No Mike, we shall
not be having combat archers and fighters mixing it upat this kind of a demo
or using live steel points of any kind. Safetyalways being our first
concern any such actions could not be controlledand would be an extreme
hazard to all in the area. Although I have notyet seen the site I suspect
that will be the case and that is how we aregoing to proceed. A bit of
caution and common sense are always in order! We shall be giving
demonstrations of shooting skills in armor at statictargets in front of an
arrow catching net using combat archery equipmentonly.!
Also demonstrating skills in fletching, combat arrow & boltmaking, and
constructing Flemish strings. Lets be clear on thi!s matter and take
note, as the Archery Marshal of theBarony of the Steppes I do reserve the
right and have the final say whatwe will and will not do concerning static
and combat archery within theSteppes. If the safety of our archers,
fighters, and/or spectators isever compromised, I will halt that event and
pull the authorization cardsof whomever is responsible for that act! Should
you have any further questions on this matter you may contact meprivately at
