Greetings,
My lady and I purchased two Motorolas from Wal-Mart for ~$20each. the have the full 20 bands, accept headsets that the more expensive models use and are powered by two AA batteries. With regular use at an event expect to replace the batteries once per event or twice with heavy use. They of course use less battery just listening so if some of your people just need to know what's going on and send the occasional message than a single set of fresh works an entire event.

While some are better than others, at a site like Canton they work wonderfully. The worst situation we had occur was when someone in the field had low batteries and had to talk to troll we sometimes set up a chain of communication until they could get fresh batteries. I've used most brands and the biggest difference once you get into the full FRS band radios is battery life as opposed to transmission distance.

In Service,
     Wilim Penbras
Chief Troll - Defender AS XXXV

PS: Warlord is huge but 500+ for my first time as Troll Chief at Defender was Fun. (Managing to keep it Balanced was fun too)
