Warm Summer Greetings Newcomers!
Please join us at Steppes Artisan this Saturday at the
Canton City Center located on the First Monday Trade
Days fairgrounds! Share with us the enjoyment of the
artisan displays, merchants, fighting, feasting and
illuminated scroll painting . Please let us know if
you plan to attend as we have special arrangements
available for you to aid you in enjoying and
understanding your first feast and Court. Contact one
of our hospitaler crew for details: Hospitaler: Lady
Clare, nikkicmiller at yahoo.com, Deputy Hospitalers:
Hon. Lady Chiara, chiara at io.com, Hon. Lady Gabrielle,
hlgabrielle at yahoo.com. Don't miss the special
information below - just for you!

"The Baron and Baroness of the Steppes request the
honor of your presence at the 15th annual Steppes
Artisan Body of Work Competition, August 24, 2002.
Site opens at 9:00 am, judging at 12:00 a.m. and site
closes at 10:00 pm. The decoration theme is Norse." A
"body of work" competition is a multiple arts/crafts
display by each artisan in order to win the title of
Steppes Artisan. Artisans from all over the Kingdom of
Ansteorra (Texas and Oklahoma) compete for the title.
Society members from other states/kingdoms attend this
prestigious event in order to check out the
competition they will have at the Gulf Wars
(Mississippi) next March! Come see the amazing
medieval arts, crafts and sciences that you, too, can
learn! ( or at least appreciate ! ) There will also be
a special "museum-quality" reproduction competition
judged by a real museum curator, so don’t miss it.

Along with the Artisan competition, there will also be
a "Pas d’Armes" tournament held at this event.
Fighters from across this great realm will unfurl
their banners, glisten in their polished and formal
tournament armor as they attend the first Steppes
Artisan Pas d’Armes. They will come forth to uphold
the chivalric ideals and to strike the torch of
gallantry. They will bathe the field in colors of
their families honor. The Baron and Baroness will
choose defenders to meet all challengers. A champion
will be chosen at the end of the event and some of
those most valiant fighters will be initiated into the
Steppes Baronial Guard.

There will also be a Scribes and Illuminors table
available in the Center for those who would like to
learn how to paint the award scrolls in the style of
the ancient medieval manuscripts. Supplies will be
provided. If you already have your own art brushes and
gouache, please bring them.

The feast will be A Tour of the Silk Road Feast as
prepared by Master Petruccio, reknowned in the field
of cookery. Come with us as we travel those mystical
lands far from the commerce centers of Europe. Lands
shrouded in mystery, filled with strange beasts,
feared warriors, and finery beyond even that of the
Papal See of Rome. Travel with us as we leave the
great port of Venice, travel through the lands of
Islam, through the lands of Mongol Khans, to the great
wealth of fabled China where
it is said that silk is woven on the looms of
magicians.

Newcomers, if you would like to attend this sumptuous
feast, please remember that you will need to bring
your own feast gear (plate, bowl, goblet/tankard, and
utensils). Other items to add to the ambiance would be
a table covering, candles, and cloth napkins. The
feast is to be pre-paid, so please contact Master
Petruccio (see link for the event webpage below) for
details.
