[Steppes] Speaking of Heraldry ...

Referring to Amy Vanderbilt as my source (tongue firmly in cheek), you use
the title that is either a) highest, or b) preferred by the individual thus
named or c) the one that has most bearing on the topic of your article
(purely an SCA addition). So someone like Baron Robin could be listed as
"Baron Robin of Gilwell" on a listing of Officers, unless he prefers one of
his other titles. In an article on Bardic filking, he'd be "Master Robin",
etc. I can't find anything in the SCA Heraldic stuff to say otherwise. And
it is rather difficult when you 'get to' present someone with fifty-eleven
titles! One thing that is certain: it's not dignified to use the entire
string in a formal setting. Try rolling on your tongue your own name, with
the addition of a County, a Laurel, a Pelican, a Lion, and what else am i
forgetting? It's almost comical, anyway; not quite the impression you'd
want to have made. But always fun to attempt.

(with thanks to His Excellency, Baron Robin, for putting up with the
unauthorized use of his name in this post)
