[Steppes] Riding on the Storm

We didn't have electricity for a couple of days, either.

Luckily, the neighbor across the creek had electricity until yesterday
(Thurs) and let us string my Warlord outdoor extension cord and my husband's
in a chain to our refrigerator to keep our food safe while he still had some
"juice". (We bought a gift card to Home Depot as a "thankyou.")

We had windup radios we had bought for Y2K, and I had the electric lamps and
a small battery-operated fan I had bought for Warlord. I also had a NOAA
weather report radio I had bought to take to Warlord several years ago.
Also, we had dried fruit and jerkey I had made for Warlord campout munchies,
as well.

Tunafish sandwiches stood us in good stead, as well, since we had a manual
canopener. The waterheater is gas, so we at least had hot water, but who
wants to get into a porcelain-over-metal tub full of water when lightning is
rampant? (I "washed" with rubbing alcohol on a washcloth and "personal
wipes" for cleanliness purposes, just like at Warlord in my tent when the
weather is storming.)

Vivat Warlord preparations!

What if we all had been in the big CA earthquake? The phones would have been
out, the gas lines ruptured, no electricity at all and we would have been
afraid of having our roof cave in on our heads! Actually, we can all be
thankful just to have electricity out in our homes for a few days.
