Greetings, The Steppes!

Our recent demo for the Celtic Heritage event was a roaring success, to
the mind of this not-too-active demo participant! There was a fairly
constant stream of individuals who came by to watch our Baron beat on
his minions, discuss fighting, and visit the A&S area as well. They
were full of questions and very impressed with the work displayed.
Several people enjoyed games of Shut the Box with our Baroness as well,
one little boy returning more than once to take her on! I think we
could have sold every item on display, plus the ones the Artisans were
working on to boot, such were the queries. A goodly number of
information brochures were handed out, which means we may have some new
friends to play with in the future.

Several gentles from our neighboring state of Elfsea came to give a
hand, and their participation was truly appreciated!

Fall Court was, as has been noted, a tremendous feast of dishes from all
over; many people shared their favorite foods, thus providing a board
literally groaning with good things to eat. Anyone who went away hungry
did so of their own volition, because there was so much left over that
we could have held another feast and still not eaten it all. The
camaraderie during the meal was also a strong point for such a rainy and
chilly night.

Court was, itself, rather short. Centurion Morgan did a terrific job of
Heralding it, even with the names of two Japanese to struggle with.
Yes, The Steppes has been gifted with two more Japanese gentlemen to add
to the lady and gentleman already living among us. These two came
before the Baron to request permission to live among his people,
kneeling and bowing right down onto the puddle-filled pavement of the
pavilion. The Baron asked for someone to sponsor them, and Ld. David
ben Leon rose to tell how they'd been found among a trade caravan,
trying to put plenty of space between themselves and an angry Emperor.
This worried our Baron; he is not generally wont to house renegades from
barbarous lands, after all. Sueko-san was called forward to give an
accounting of her countrymen, and murmured gently to His Excellency that
these two were nothing to worry about, being mere Ronin and beneath the
Emperor's notice anyway. Our wise Baron decided to allow these two to
stay and dismissed them from his Court, but refused to allow Sueko to
leave with them, since he bore a message for her from our Stellar
Majesties. That message was a Sable Thistle in Japanese Culture, which
those two reprobate Ronin objected to on the grounds that a mere woman
does not receive such honors without her Clan Chief present. The women
of The Steppes quickly put these outlandish ideas to rest, and Court was
shortly adjourned. What fun!
