[Steppes] Fencing Practice Canceled due to not actually beinginsane....Clarification

No.

This is Texas - which means there is more hot weather than there is
ideal weather or cold weather. The ideal fighting weather for both heavy
and I dare say for light, is approximately 60 degrees. Even that could
get a little warm wearing all of the cloth, leather, metal, etc...

I and others in the heavy fighting community have been out on Sunday
afternoons when the temperature has reached 104 to 115 degrees. All it
means is that there are more breaks and longer rest periods in between
each individual contest. We have even been out there conducting
Melee/War practices even in August prior to Gothic Wars. Once again, it
means that everyone who comes out recognize that it is going to be hot
and plan according.

The purpose of practice is hone one's skill in the ability to fight
against one's opponents, one such opponent is the weather itself. Just
as someone who increases their ability to swing their sword, placement
of their feet and of their shield and to make it all appear as one
single action. There is also a more important aspect that is recognizing
what your body is actually telling you about itself. And listen to it.

Those who wish to only come out and practice when the weather ideal -
will be waiting a extremely long time. And when they do come and face
off against those who have come out will find that those individuals who
have made a habit of practicing well...they will get smoked!

Or if those who want the perfect weather and wait for it, then when they
finally decide to attend an event, then there will be a good chance they
will be the ones who have to leave the field before anyone else. Or in
some cases, have to be help from the field, for the simple fact they did
not prepared themselves for the rigors of combat and the weather that
arrives to herald the event in and over the course of the duration of
that event.

There is a real need to listen to what your body is attempting to tell
you and more importantly to response in a positive way, and that is take
more breaks and longer as well during hot weather. And hot weather here
Texas will run from about April right through end of September or even
October (depends that year weather patterns).

Gothic Wars is that end of August through the 1st 3 days of September -
the chances are that it will be hot out there, just like it is here.
Need to prepare yourself now.

This means the following:
Drank plenty of water prior to attending either an event or a practice
If coming out to a practice, heavy practice on Sunday - starting on
Thursday to get one's body hydrated.
Bring a minimum of gallon of water, plus other liquids, such as
gatorade, etc...
Energy snacks
And of course, there will be additional shade to aid the shade trees
that are already there.

>I know that for archery, we try to post an update via email about 2 hours before practice or at 8 a.m. It usually works for most people. I would suggest that method or else get the phone number of the holder of the practice and check. Adelina posted the phone numbers for both herself and Don Ingve and they are listed at the bottom of this email. Between the heat and the air quality, I think that it should be a given that practices for any of the martial events should be called if the temps are over 95 and the air quality red.
