Answer is still No.

The heavy fighters will be listen to - others who do not attend nor
support the heavy fighters will not be!

Period!

There are enough studies out there that indicate that heavy exertion under such circumstances is not just potentially harmful, it is dangerous. I am concerned about liability holding practices when there are clear warnings that the air quality is harmful, not just for persons with health issues, but for everyone. While there is nothing anywhere that says that a person has to participate in practices, it is very possible that someone could take legal action against the Barony and the SCA if someone were to get ill or die from practicing in conditions that are deemed dangerous...a red air quality day is clearly publicized as such a condition.

>As far as the heat issue...Well, there are several school districts and institutions that are dealing with legal issues about practice in the heat. They have legal departments and financial backing that our Barony and we as marshals and individuals do not. Whether you have done so in the past does not make it safe or prudent. As a former EMT and nurse, I take safety of all kinds very seriously. I threatened to cancel archery at an event once if the Archers were not given a shade pavilion and I will do so again if necessary.

I know of a case at an event last fall where a man who has and still has no business being in armor due to health issues and medication got into trouble. I saw him in armor about a month ago at another event...again too hot. There comes a point when it is the marshal's responsiblity to say that conditions are not safe.

I would suggest that method or else get the phone number of the holder of the practice and check. Adelina posted the phone numbers for both herself and Don Ingve and they are listed at the bottom of this email. Between the heat and the air quality, I think that it should be a given that practices for any of the martial events should be called if the temps are over 95 and the air quality red. > > > >Lyneya> >> >> >> > > >> >>From: wmeriic at tx.rr.com> To: steppes at ansteorra.org> Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2007 21:04:30 -0500> Subject: Re: [Steppes] Fencing Practice Canceled due to not actually beinginsane....Clarification> > I see that, I just brought a couple of new comers out there today.
