[Steppes] heat in south Texas

How do others down south deal with not having showers during the heat of the
summer? From what I could remember, the Bryn Gwlad site only had two and
they seemed to be able to make do.

The answer to that question really depends on how far south you go.
I can only speak of the sites I have visited. I have been to a few
Bjornsborg events it's been more than 5 years since I sent there, and more
Bryn Gwlad Events in the last few years since Don Shamino has been adding to
Castleton and a whole bunch of Stargate and Gates Edge events, I have good
friends in Houston.

When I first started playing I camped everywhere I went. Now I know people
in the kingdom and seldom camp. I'll stay in a hotel or with friends.

I can tell you that 90% of Stargate and Gates Edge events while they have
and allow camping, the populace doesn't camp because of the humidity and/or
possibility of rain. It's very strange to camp there. You'll have 300 to
400 people at an event and after court and feast, you'll be lucky to see 25
people on site. What remains are the core group and a few folks who arrive
to camp.

As far as cooling off... you become very accustomed to wearing Greek and
Roman when it's hot even if it's not your persona. Unless of course you
don't mind sweating. I don't know how the rapier fighters do it? That's
just way to much clothing for me in the heat.

I know that a change of clothing at your car does help and a sponge bath out
of a bucket or bottle of water also helps. I have seen many people just go
to their car and change clothes. Some folks actually leave site and get
something to eat and cool off that way or just go to their hotel room and
return to the site after a shower. I am thinking the latter is probably
more likely to be the case.
