Vyolante, your excellent words give me the opportunity to share a story. It might make a few people uncomfortable. That's the intent. 

While at the All Con demo, I was approached by a friend of mine who was a participant in the convention, but is also active in the SCA in the Western region. He was browsing the dealers' room, and approached the SCA table. He was admiring the things that were displayed when a lady behind the table started telling him about the SCA. He said, "Yes, I know, my lady. I'm formerly of the shire of Mendersham." She looked at him, didn't say a word and turned to talk to her companion. She narely acknowledged the presence of Svendrogan, and according to him looked like she was going to be sick when she found out the next morning that he's a closer personal friend of his Majesty King Aaron. So, really the problem doesn't just lie with the newcomers but with veteran members as well. If we ignore our own, how many potential members are we ignoring?
