I don't remember the exact history of the creation of the various cantons, but maybe those who do wouldn't mind telling a few stories...

I totally see where you are coming from Jaque. After looking at that  
map, I was surprised to see where the boundaries fell.

My guess is that Lindenwood was originally conceived as a way to  
accommodate those who lived along the Steppes/Elfsea border, so they  
wouldn't have to drive 45 minutes either east or west to participate.  
Sounds good in theory, but no one considered the north/south travel  
times... or if they did, it was just the best they could do to  
accommodate those "midcities" folks.

Again, just my guess.
