Thanks for the info. It could be that the reputation for the lake
colors' having a fugitive nature just got around to enough buyers
that they didn't buy enough to warrant its manufacture.
Sorry about the Ultramarine Deep. My art library has the listed
manufacturers for Ult. Bl. Dp. as:
Bloxx, LeFranc & Bourgeois, Holbein, Sennelier, and Talens (two types).
Maybe it's just that the wholesaler Asel is using isn't bringing in
whatever brand they were selling. I have known more than one clerk to
tell me a product wasn't being made anymore when it truly was.
There was a scare years ago about the Cadmiums' being taken off the
market since they are toxic. The artists threw such a national fit,
the retailers had to bring them back and label them as toxic to save
their (...). This might have the same effect it enough people talk to
enough managers and owners of retail shops. Online shopping is a
fearsome thing when you're a storefront.
If you want to mix your own, you might go on line and locate Kremer
Pigments to see what they offer in pigments. They are the company
which supplied the pigments the restorers used on Florence's frescoes
when Italy had those famous floods a few years back. That would give
you the bonus/choice as to what binder and how much you want to mix
with the pigments.
My advice? Keep looking... .for a substitute you can live with. ; - )
