[Steppes] Steppes Digest, Vol 1143, Issue 13

We met some of the Ansteorra group down at College Station at the Vet Clinic Open House and that is why we looked up our local group. Our oldest son is 11 and he has taken to the hobby of making chainmaille as of this last Christmas. Both our sons were fascinated with the cross bows, and our youngest daughter with the cord making. We were hoping their would be events in the area for us to attend or get to know some of the others in this area who could help share what they know in regard to these hobbies. I thought the news letters would have information about the activities and such, but it doesn't seem to be. Do you have any suggestions or ideas for us... a family new to this idea of time period involvement? Thanks!

Congratulations to Mistress Maggie and King's Creek, our new Canton!  I am inspired by them!

I had such a wonderful time at Coronation and was so pleased to see everyone.  We have missed everyone!   Most of the local events are just too far away from us and we have had a lot of conflicts. We will not make it to Warlord, for example, because we are attending Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tn.

I saw where Lord Fiacha was planning a fighter practice in Lewisville for April.30 at 7 pm.  We have Destination Imagination at our house that night from 7 to 9.  If anyone would like to stop by our house after fighter practice or otherwise at 9, we would love to see you briefly and offer you refreshment.  Our house is in Flower Mound  at 2713 Pasadena Place Flower Mound 75022

If this is too late for you, we would like to invite anyone who is interested to meet with us the second Tuesday in June to talk about ways that we could start having some SCA activities at our home once or twice a month on Tuesday nights.   We will not be meeting with our DI team on Tuesdays next year.  We do not intend to have a guild or conflict with any other activities, but we do have room for activities such as scribal or lamp work or woodworking.  Our yard slopes but the heavy and light fighters could take a look and see what they think.  It might be too sloped for fighting but we could discuss it, and we could have bardic circles out back as long as we ended by ten ( neighbors).  We are blessed with a bigger house than many right now and while it is not very clean at present, we think that this may be a good way to participate more on a local level.  Maybe we could also recruit more in this area if we had some local events out here.

Good Day,

I just wanted to take a quick minute to thank a few people for their help
with Feast for Coronation.

First, to Michael... Thank you for not batting an eye when I came home and
told you what I offered to do for Elspeth.  Thank you for patiently helping
me arrange and re-arrange a brand new freeze with food that wasn't for us.
Thank you for letting our new gas range be broken in with food for 150. We
certainly know what it can do now!

Thank you for helping me keep my sanity and coming to your first event on
Saturday and spending it working in the kitchen with me.

To Jared - you will never truly know how proud I am of you, my Son.  You
helped us make meat pies to feed everyone. Helped us bag 160lb of meat and
then helped us load everything into the vehicles - one of those being
yours. And then, you stayed and helped all day. Never blinked and eye when
plans changed or something needed to be fixed.

To Kathryn... as Faelan said, the highest ranking one of us was the one who
kept us "clean"! LOL Thank you for offering. Thank you for being my
sounding board and for helping us stay organized.

To Faelan and Reagan, thank you for coming out and helping after being gone
for longer than I!  It humbles me to know I was part of the reason you were
willing to do that.  You guys rock!

Reagan, Thank you for being willing to head up the organizational issues
with serving. Layla, thank YOU for being willing to be my head server and
wrangler. I am sorry we butted heads (as we tend to do), but you know me...
I had a vision and when that vision went a bit south...

To Snory for being my herald and working with me. To his lovely wife for
helping with dishes.

To the two newbies who's names I promised I wouldn't remember - thank YOU
for stepping up to help with the chaos and seeming to have fun!  To the
lovely one who's real name is Katherine?, thank you as well!

Guiallom (sorry to butcher your name) thank you for helping. You were a
calm in the storm of serving.

To Their Most Excellent Excellencies, Suzanna and Philippe - you also were
a calm in the storm. I Know you both have done this a "million"times. Thank
you for letting me try to do it my way for the first time. :)

I saw others helping server - Alden... and... and... Sigh Sorry to miss
anyone as it was a blur.

My last Kitchen thanks is to Don Tivar.  You spent your time helping us
clean the mountain of dishes I managed to make feeding everyone and you
were so cool about it! Thank you!

Lastly, Elspeth and Gerhart... thank you for trusting me but mostly taking
care of me and my crew.

Ok... back to work.

Viviana
