Jane McBride, a rancher out in Dripping Springs, has died.
Jane raised fleece animals and gave tours of her ranch so kids could learn where wool and yarn come from. Here’s a link to an episode of Discover Texas on YouTube where Annie Studebaker visits Jane at the ranch.

Jane’s adult children aren’t fiber artists, so they don’t know what to do with the hundreds of pounds of yarn and fleece that Jane hadn’t yet sold or spun into yarn - and they need some cash to fix up the house.
Jane’s stash is now taking up two rooms of my friend Lori’s house, because Lori is the president of the fiber arts council in Austin and she’s the first person Jane’s kids could think to call. There’s merino wool, llama fleece, mohair, and maybe a little alpaca fleece. There’s some finished yarn, too, including some store-bought.

I told Lori to send me a box of yarn and fleece that would be worth $150 at market price, and put in a note with an address for Jane’s family. When the box arrives, I’m going to send the family a check for $150. (Lori teaches financial literacy when she’s not doing fiber arts, and I trust her to price pretty much anything so the seller and the buyer both go away feeling like they did well.)

If you would like to help Jane’s family by buying some fleece, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with Lori. Then you can work out the details with her.

    Bright blessings!

    Karen
