GULF WARS ARTS AND SCIENCES
COMPETITION RULES

CHAMPIONS BATTLE:

Static Arts:

The battle will take place on Friday of War Week.

The battle will be limited to 20 works of art from each warring Kingdom,
Ansteorra and Trimaris.

Each Kingdom may determine how these 20 entries are to be chosen.

The artist need not be present at the event. Artisans and Kingdoms will
be identified on each entry. Judges may compete, but may not judge their
own entry.

A single artist may enter more than one item, but each item will count as
one entry.

(Where several cohesive items go together as part of the research, they will
be considered one entry. For instance, pieces of jewelry cast in several
different mediums and techniques; a set of twelve hand-made woodworking
tools; a complete costume.)

Documentation will be required.

Laurels from all Kingdoms are invited to judge. At least one Ansteorran and
one Trimarian laurel will judge each entry. All commentary will be signed.
The point for this battle will go to the Kingdom with the highest score.

PERFORMING ARTS BATTLE:

The warring Kingdoms, Ansteorra and Trimaris, will be limited to one
performance in each of the following categories:

Song (group or solo)
Story
Poetry
Instrumental (group or solo)
Dance (group or solo)
Dramatic Presentation (troupe or soliloquy/monologue)

Each Kingdom may determine how these entries are to be chosen.

Documentation will be required.

The Battle will take place Friday evening of War Week. (See schedule for
time and location.)

Each entry has a 10 (ten) minute time limit, which includes set-up and
introduction. The only exception to this rule is for Dramatic Presentation,
which has a 15 (fifteen) minute time limit.

All laurels are invited to judge the competition. A laurel need not judge
every category of the Performing Arts; only those categories for which
he/she feels qualified. At least one Ansteorran laurel and one Trimarian
laurel will judge each Performing Arts entry.

The performances will be open for viewing to the general populace.

The point for this battle will go to the Kingdom with the highest score from
the six performances.

GRAND MELEE A&S COMPETITION:

The Grand Melee will be run Saturday morning of War Week. (See schedule for
time and location.)

The melee will be open to anyone attending the war. The entrant must be
present. A medallion number will be required on each entry form.

Each entrant must declare for a warring Kingdom: Ansteorra or Trimaris.

A single person may enter as many items as he wishes, but the winner of the
melee will be the Kingdom with the most entrants, not entries.

Documentation is required on all entries.

The populace will be asked to choose a popular favorite by the "bead in a
cup" method.

Each Queen of the three sponsoring Kingdoms, Ansteorra, Meridies, and
Trimaris, will be asked to choose Her favorite entry.

Other Royals, Nobles, and members of the populace are encouraged to share
their largesse and wordfame as they see fit.
