Actually the history of citrus fruits is much more complicated than that.
It's not so much regional as it is one of crosses and hybrids and grafts 
that were
then used to produce new fruits. Farmers have been playing around
with citrus fruits for thousands of years.
Until such time as the books are unboxed and I do another edition of my own
oranges book, I would suggest taking a look at: the new book titled:

Citrus by Pierre Laszlo. University of Chicago Press.
