German Fest
Festival of Saint Siglend
Patron Saint of Brewers, Tavern Workers and True Love
September 19-21, 2003

       Siglend was the young, beautiful and trusting daughter of a prosperous
brewer; who, with the recklessness of youth, had the misfortune to fall
deeply in love with the rival brewer's son. Out of love (or stupidity) she snuck
into her father's vault and stole the secret to his most famous and successful
brewing recipe and gave it to her love (mayhap hoping to win his heart in
return?). He, being fallacious and having merely toyed with her most tender of
affections, immediately told her that he did not love her and gave the recipe to
his father so they could crush the rival house's fortune.
Shattered and broken hearted, she confessed to her father all that befallen;
seeking his forgiveness to placate her guilty conscious and ease her aching
heart. Her father, becoming enraged beyond all reason; grabbed her and, stuffing
her into a beer barrel, took her out to the river and threw her over the
Falls into the churning, frothing waters below (so resembling beer foam).
       A miracle occurred when, several days later, dead fish (our tavern
token) were found all along the banks of the now red stained water.
       Now, when young couples journey out to the Falls for a lover's tryst;
if one of the lovers is untrue, the lover who is pure of heart will see the
image of Saint Siglend in the frothing waters of the Falls warning them of the
impending betrayal.

Her Holy Flower: Hops
Her Holy Symbol: Fish
Her Holy Beverage: Beer

 Tavern games will be held in honor of Saint Siglend to celebrate the glory
of the tavern worker.

DISCALAIMER: No saints where actually harmed or thrown over the falls in the
making of this event. We do not condone the throwing of young woman (or old)
over water falls in barrels or the killing of innocent fish.
