Greetings to the membership of the Society:

The Board of Directors seeks input from the membership on a proposed change to the By-Laws of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.

By-Laws VI.E.2. currently reads as follows:

"Directors' terms shall be staggered so that one term ends each six months. Under ordinary circumstances, Directors shall serve fourteen quarters, dating from the meeting at which they are elected. A Director's term begins immediately upon election and acceptance." 

This does not reflect current practice. For the past several years, Directors have served one quarter as a Director-Elect following their election and before assuming their seat on the Board. Therefore, the following revision is proposed:

"Directors' terms shall be staggered so that one term ends each six months. Under ordinary circumstances, Directors shall serve fourteen quarters."

The start date for each Director's term shall henceforth be specified in the motion by which the person is elected to the Board, and shall appear in the Minutes. Note that this proposal does not change the length of a Director's term of service, but merely makes the Governing Documents match actual practice.

Commentary must be received by February 1, 2005
