Arcus Ironwyrm has stepped forward to most graciously sponsor a crossbow division for the bowmans tourney and offer a prize of a quiver and bolts.
Crossbow rules are as follows:
Target format to remain the same as for archers.
Your Royal Round rank for crossbow must be Bowman or below or you must be shooting at or below that level on your honor.
You must never have won a tourney in any archery division.
You may fire from any position except seated (with the exception of handicap)
As there is no loaner equipment available crossbowmen must have their own equipment or make arrangements on their own to borrow crossbow and bolts.
All other SCA range safety rules shall apply.

Subject: [Ansteorra-archery] Warlord Bowman's tourney and Period shoot

In addition to the normal William Tell, Steppes Archer, and childrens competitions this year there will be two additional shoots which will be shot by the grace of their Excellencies Steppes.

Rules of the Bowman's tourney are as in previous years. You must be at
Ansteorra Bowman rank or below (royal rounds of 45 or less) as determined by published scores or your
honor and never have won an archery tourney. There is no limit on how
long you have been shooting. You may have been shooting for years or you may pick up a bow the day of the tourney.

A Royal Round will be part of the
tourney and all scores will be submitted. This tourney is for bows only
although crossbows may shoot but not compete for prize. Some loaner
gear will be available for use in this tourney.

Prize for this tourney will be a Japanese Yumi style bow.

But WAIT! There is more!

There will also be an archery shoot limited to PERIOD archery. This
shoot will be limited to period crossbows and bows made of period
materials. ONLY exception will be for plastic crossbow nuts and Dacron
string materials for reasons of safety. Fiberglas or aluminum crossbow
prods and fiberglas or metal bows are unacceptable unless suitably
documented. Any wood may be used and any glue or finish providing it
does not plasticise the bow. Otherwise any style or design of bow or
crossbow is acceptable if you can provide documentation that it was used
prior to 1600.

Extra points for documentation and for having made your own equipment.
Arrows and bolts should have field tips only if shot and conform to Ansteorra period rules. Bodkins will not be acceptable. Targets will be period style targets.

There will be both a crossbow division and a bow division. Prize for the crossbow division will be half a dozen period bolts contributed by Ld Ulrich of Carolingia. Prize for the bow division will be half a dozen or more period style arrowheads including horsekiller, broadhead, bodkin and possibly other styles. Other prizes may be added.

If you have questions about these two tourneys please contact me or one
of my arcarius.
