There have always been problems with changing standards, people wanting more standards, fewer standards, etc. One thing is for certain, as long as there is more than one person involved, there will be more than one opinion. That's why I always try to take it with a grain of salt,a nd remember the following.

Ancient wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.

In organizations, however, we often try many other strategies, including the following:

1. Changing riders
2. Buying a stronger whip
3. Appointing a committee to study the horse
4. Arranging a visit to other sites to see how they ride dead horses
5. Increasing the standards for riding dead horses
6. Appointing a committee to revive the dead horse
7. Creating a training session to improve riding skills
8. Comparing the state of dead horses in today's environment
9. Changing the requirements so that the horse no longer meets the
standard of death
10. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed
11. Declaring that no horse is too dead to ride
12. Forming a committee to find uses for dead horses
13. Changing performance requirements for dead horses
14. Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position

In reality, these can be changed to read whatever portion of the SCA you wish to discuss.

An organization which worries more about rank and rules than it does the people is an organization in decline.
