These I simply call mile markers. They basically mark your path or
progress to a goal, instead of being required to get to your goal.

I certainly hope none of our awards are a true dead end. I honestly
didn't even know that reputatoin of the Centurions.
Btw, even after someone gets a Peerage, I hope people are willing to
recognize them for work above the call of duty as well as work in new
fields. The difficult part is to know what is a new field for someone.
