Many years ago in the Shire of Mooneschadow we had a gentleman who went by
the name of friar Peter Rainbolt. I saw him on two different occasions
refuse an AOA (which he defiantly deserved) from the Crown in court. Once,
from the hands of Cyf at Wiesenfeuer Yule and once from Simonn and Tessa at
Mooneschadow. He protested that since he was but a simple friar, who had
given up almost all worldly goods and honors, it would not be right for him
to accept the award. However, Simonn countered that it was up to the crown
to decide whether a subject was deserving of an award or honor or not.
Simonn further said that the friar didn't have to acknowledge the award or
use the title and that the Crown would hold the scroll in its safe keeping.
But, because of the body of work that Friar Peter had done, he was going
to receive the AOA that he so richly deserved. The good friar humbly
accepted the honor from his King but to my knowledge he never once used the
title and would politely correct you if you called him Lord.
