ANST - Royal Huntsman

My 2 denarii,

Greetings, I am new to the SCA, and an archer, and can only speak from what
I know and have seen, but in response to this line, I would have to say that
ALL archers in the SCA ARE archers for the fun of it, it is sure not for the
titles, recognition or awards! One of the first things I was told when I
began with archery and the SCA was that if I wanted recognition I should be
a heavy fighter. But, I like archery. It would be nice to be able to
"sell" archery, and maybe with some more (or in some cases, ANY) contests,
awards, recognition, etc., "selling" archery would be possible. Until then,
we can only recruit those people who do archery for the fun.

Once upon a time (in real life)(so I've heard) a King outlawed golf as it
interfered with archery. Archery was part of the defense of the kingdom.
Now I'm NOT saying that one of our kings should outlaw anything because it
"interferes" with archery, but it does show that archery is as period as
knights and rapier. (Didn't a battle at Hastings have something to do with
archery?)

Awards would be nice, but I think recognition first would be a good step.
This new award for Royal Huntsman is another excellent step in getting more
archers involved in the SCA. The more recognition, the more interest will
be generated.

Just my two Dinarii worth

Ld James
