What are the rules for accepting blows from a sling? Slings were used in period
even quite a bit after Hastings. (Saw a wonderful show on A&E about slings
and spears and the development of them to modern battles.) But how are
they to be used in SCA combat? Slingstones do a wonderful job of taking out
lightly armored forces that were the mainstay of most medieval armies but
I doubt they would be much of a threat against a fully armed and armored knight.
Unless hit in the face, all I feel a slingstone would do against me in a full hauberk

with gambeson and hardened leather reinforcements (what we are supposedly
wearing) would be a bruise. And such a bruise would make me, as a period knight,
even more determined to ride into the middle of that rabble with sword swinging.

I certainly don't feel we should call slingstones as we call arrows or trebuchet
rocks.
So what is the ruling so I don't make a mistake on the field?

Yers,

Gunthar
