problem is, "derogation" is a relative / judgmental thing that is in
constant shift, flux, and re-definition ("politics" in action) ....
it means something different to every group, every individual.  what
is offensive to one, is simply a word or historical reference to
another.  some choose to carry the increasing "politically-correct"
burdens that other lay on such words, other do not and reject it.

is one view point inherently superior to the other?  should one view
be deemed superior and the other inferior, and those that hold to the
non-popular views be chastised, fettered, reviled ????

if the answer is yes, it sounds dangerously close to "church dogma"
and the inquisitional mindset that enforced it - and being students
of history, we all know where such "inquisitions" lead ... right back
to the n-word that is so reviled.

the way out the morass - wider & deeper tolerance for differences,
and development thicker skins.  all in all, lately people as a whole
are way too easily offended about essentially non-issues.
