The best one I have involved a trip to Academy of the Bow down on Ft. Hood in Middleford. I was travelling with HL Fearghus McKenna and HL Wil Blackdragon (Ironwyrm). We had Fearghus' Surburban packed to the gills with camping gear, regular archery gear, Combat gear, armor, etc not to mention coolers, etc. Apparently the person manning the gate when we arrived either hadn't been informed, or hadn't paid attention to the fact that there would be a bunch of folks showing up for the event. We were asked to exit the vehicle (at which point we had to let him know that one of us was wheelchair bound and that would be an issue without getting his chair.) This flustered the guy a bit, but not nearly so much as when he asked if we had any weapons. We all kind of looked at each other and Ironwyrm asked him to....."define weapons." When the back of the car was opened up to reveal knives, axes, spears, bows, and arrows....well...let's just say that it took a while for his jaw to return to its normal position. We got to laughing later about it because we had considered buying fireworks at the Walmart in Killeen. Then when they asked about explosives, we would have asked them to define those, too. :D Needless to say, we got that guy's weekend off to quite a start. We got passed through and had a great event. When I arrived at the local hospital where I worked I was met be a security guard. At the end of the walkway and was told to, "Take your knife back to your car!". Having no clue about what he was talking about, I asked and he pointed to my right hip where I carried,,,,my dagger! In my most patient MoC voice I explained that it was not a knife but a 11th century replica of a eating dagger and would you like to see it? He was not interested or amused and I still had to go back out to the parking garage and was even more late. > > Bottom line,,,,,,change Before you leave site and leave Early!!! ;-)> > --- On Thu, 7/17/08, Owen Van Meter <ovanoff57 at clearwire.net> wrote:> > From: Owen Van Meter <ovanoff57 at clearwire.net>> Subject: Re: [Ansteorra] "Freaking the Mundanes"> To: "Kingdom of Ansteorra - SCA, Inc." <ansteorra at lists.ansteorra.org>> Date: Thursday, July 17, 2008, 7:28 PM> > How about this One:> > Went into a convience store on the way home from an event, > still for the most part in garb.
