(Swap "king" and "queen" here at need.)

First, the old king and queen start their final court and give some
general awards. Then they give awards to certain of their entourage
because they can't do the period thing of issuing backdated land
grants and looting the treasury and tossing the goodies to their
retainers as they flee screaming for the ships. They then dismiss all
sorts of people and maybe hand things to them to hold with lots of
talking that sometimes we can actually hear, but to be fair in period
the populace usually didn't hear what they were saying as their reigns
ended unless the stepping-down ceremony included red-hot irons. Back
to the SCA: then they set down their crowns and bolt for the exit.
And everyone applauds which I think is simply DREADFUL of them,
because you applaud for something that want more of, but kicking out a
crown is not something to cheer, and because you only applaud players
and singers and dancers and the like lowlife entertainer SCUM! I
refuse to applaud at weddings too and hardly ever at funerals.

Halftime. There's no halftime show which is really a relief because
coronation's like a reverse Super Bowl because the game is almost
nothing BUT halftime show but with no Budweiser Clydesdales and hardly
ever a clothing malfunction.

Then the new king comes up and they're mean to him and play keepaway
until he talks them out of it. Then the new queen but of course with
the king going first she has to share the spotlight which is kind of
unfair because the SCA had queens well before kings and the kings only
got created because they fought for their queens. Then everyone gets
undismissed and gives all the nifty stuff back. And the knights
usually insist on swearing individual fealty when in period refusing
to swear the legally-binding or customary oaths would have gotten them
an invasion, maybe a treason trial, and a short-term loan of 12 feet
of rope, and anyway we hardly EVER hear what THEY say which may be for
the best but is boring. Then all the other peers and officers do the
fealty thing but far more sensibly of course. Then the previous king
and queen get their lovely parting gifts of awards at need. Then
maybe a few general awards and that's that.

Hope That Helps! I may have a few opinions on the process.
I hope I was entertaining.

Daniel de Lincoln, one of the lowlife entertainer SCUM!
