*Artisans' Traditional Showcase*

Town Square- Special Events Pavilion



All members of the populace are invited to participate, either as an
artisan showing pieces, or as someone who wishes to view the displays and
speak with artisans. Appropriate displays include all forms of Arts &
Sciences studied in the SCA, including (but not limited to) calligraphy and
illumination, furniture, heraldic display, clothing and accessories, armor,
metalwork and casting, leatherwork, lace work, embroidery, beadwork,
ceramic arts, glasswork, cooking, brewing and medieval style performing
arts. Artisans who have documentation for their pieces are encouraged to
bring the documentation so it may be included in their display.  It is for
non-laurels in attendance only, and is the perfect medium for artisans to
display their works and get to discuss their passion for their art form
with the Laurels, Crowns and populace from all over the Known World.

World are invited to participate. Appropriate displays are the same as the
Traditional Showcase. Documentation and source material is heavily
encouraged. In this Showcase the roles are reversed and the Laurels get the
opportunity to share their body of works. Most importantly, their range of
information and understanding of their art forms are yours just for the
asking.

In anticipation of the Society for Creative Anachronism 50th year birthday,
a challenge was put forth for members of the populace to between now and
the fiftieth year, complete fifty tasks. For those artisans who are
striving to complete fifty arts and sciences projects, this is their
opportunity to showcase their efforts. All members of the populace from the
Known World are encouraged to participate.

In this class you will learn to make a 3 piece coif to help complement your
wardrobe.  The instructor will provide white cotton fabric to make the coif.
If you wish another color or fabric, please bring it.  The supplies you
need are scissors, needles and pins.  This will be a hand sewing class, so
some knowledge is recommended.

Beads are part of most of the Nordic and Slavic cultures but how do you
recreate that look in the modern era? This class will cover basic
information on period beads, mostly glass from Northern and Eastern Europe
and will show the students what to look for when shopping for beads in
modern stores to make period style accessories.

After you put that amazing outfit you spent weeks sewing on in the morning,
do you put on your site token necklace and think....'wow....this token is
cool, but this dirty piece of string is really detracting from my look!?'
For $10 and with a little bit of creativity you can transform it into
something worthy of your attire. I wear mine all year. I will have a
variety of beads and findings available, and will help you as much as you
need me to. Suggested transformations include necklaces, pins, key chains,
and bracelets.

*Rectangles, Triangles, and Squares- Period Patterns Made Easy*

An overview of period patterns from several regions & centuries using only
rectangles, triangles, and squares, and how to transfer your measurements
to graph paper to formulate your own patterns.

*Chausses and Braies*

Dame Angele Plaisance and Mistress Amy Marie

Chausses are thigh-high linen or wool stockings to be used in conjunction
with braies and garters worn by both men and women. The style being taught
is 12th - early 15th century. (Braies class to follow, taught by Mistress
Amy Marie.) Using measurements, Dame Angele will chalk a personalized
pattern for every student to take home. (Person who the pattern is for must
be present.) Construction of these thigh high socks and materials needed
will be explained. Very extensive handouts will be emailed to each student.
Braies are medieval boxer shorts, which have special waist ties to attach
chausses to. Paper handouts will be provided in class.

Glorious fanfare and courtly graces are all a part of the pageantry of the
Current Middle ages. This class will walk beginners through a day in the
life of an average field herald. We will cover tournament processionals,
interactions with the list minister, and standard convention before,
during, and after combat. We may even get in to heraldic dress, time
permitting. Please come and join in; beginners will benefit most but
experienced heralds can offer up advice and knowledge to widen the scope of

know how? In this class, you will learn the basics you need to have a great
time dancing the night away at drum circles and haflas all over the Knowne
World!
We will cover the basic foundation movements of Middle Eastern dance and
learn to combine that basic "alphabet" into beautiful and fun "phrases" - we
will also sample the most frequent rhythms that are played at SCA drum
circles and discuss drum circle etiquette (or "how not to be the jerk at
the drum circle.")
Wear something comfortable to move in, and a scarf or sash to tie around
the hip is encouraged, but please save the jingles for the campfire, since
we'll probably be sharing space with other classes and we don't want to be
Those Guys ;)

Embroidery 101 will be an engaging class that allows for one to learn a
brief history of embroidery and how it has progressed through the ages. It
will allow for participants to also learn the stitches for themselves,
giving plenty of time to ask questions and learn how to make a stunning
piece of art to wear on their favorite outfit, or place upon a satchel for

Learn to make felt the way the Mongolians have been doing it for
centuries.  History and wet hands will be combined as participants in this
class create their own piece of felt during class, to be picked up after
the felting process is completed.  The creative portion runs from 10 am to
12 pm.  I will pull the roll and the participants can pick up their pieces
between 3:30 and 4:00. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
